  • Retreat Dates.
    The retreat is being held February 14-17, 2008

  • Retreat Location.
    The retreat is being held at the Hotel Murano, formerly the Sheraton Tacoma Hotel, in Tacoma, Washington.

  • Travel Information.
    Information about getting to the Hotel Murano including the shuttle to and from the hotel and SeaTac Airport, the train to Tacoma and driving directions are located on the Hotel Reservation and Information page on the Madrona Website.

  • Parking.
    The Hotel Murano has parking available for hotel guests at $8 per night and $12 per day for other visitors. Additional parking options are listed on the Hotel Reservation and Information page on the Madrona Website.

  • Hotel Reservation Requests:
    Hotel expenses are not included in Winter Retreat fees and are paid separately by attendees. Reservation requests for the Hotel Murano (formerly the Sheraton Tacoma Hotel) will open when class registration opens and can only be made through Madrona Fiber Arts and NOT directly with the hotel. For Hotel rates, roommate requests and instructions for making a reservation, go to the Hotel Reservation and Information page on the Madrona website.

  • Meals.
    You are on your own for meals at the Winter Retreat. Lunch break at the retreat is between 12 noon and 1:30 PM. The Hotel Murano has a Grille Restaurant and there are a number of nearby restaurants and fast food establishments. On Saturday and Sunday you will be able to get a limited menu of sandwiches, salads, drinks and snacks from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Pavilion near the Marketplace. The hotel lobby also has an espresso stand open from early morning to early afternoon. Complimentary coffee, tea and water is available in the hotel lobbies and the rotunda of the Pavilion

  • Registration opens on Monday, November 12th at 8:00 AM Pacific Time and not a minute before.

  • Registration is available only online on a first come, first served basis. Please go to the Retreat Registration page for complete instructions. There will be a registration button to click on when registration opens on November 12th.

  • Listing of classes that have openings.
    We will be posting which classes are full on the Class Schedule on a daily basis for the first several weeks after registration opens and then frequently there after. After the initial registration opening you can go to the Class Schedule to check for classes that have openings before going to register.

  • Registering for someone other than yourself. You must submit completely separate registrations for each person. Be sure you have all the contact info for your friend before you begin registration.
    • Register as if you were that person beginning with their e-mail address on the first registration page. Thenenter their name, address and phone number on the next page. You will be asked if the registration is for someone other than yourself and you will enter your own information in the boxes.
    • You may register for paymentusing the credit card number of the person you are registering for or your own card number, or payment by check.
    • If theother person you're registering for does not have an email address, then you can use your own email address (and you will receive all future notices for that person at your email address).
    • When you use your email address to register more than one person, including yourself,after the first time, all subsequent registrations will give you a message that says"this email address was already used". You will be asked if you want to begin a new registration.Click on the "New Registration Button" and proceed to enter the new name, address and phone number.

  • If you need to interrupt your registration in the middle, just exit anytime BEFORE you click on "submit your registration" and it will not be recorded. You can then re-enter to register at another time.

  • Wait List.
    Many classes fill quickly and we recommend that you choose another class if the one you preferred is full and want to be sure to have a class. Alternatively, you can contact Suzanne Pedersen at suzanne@madronafiberarts.com to be placed on a wait list but you will NOT be able to also enroll in another class during that same time slot.

  • Saturday Night Banquet.
    Registration is required to attend the banquet. Go to the registration page and proceed through registration. You register for the banquet when you register for classes. If you are not taking any classes you will be allowed to register for the banquet only and the non-refundable registration fee will not be charged to you. Banquet tickets are $45 each for a Salmon dinner. A vegetarian alternative is available.

    Our speaker at the banquet will be Judith MacKenzie McCuin, an internationally recognized and beloved teacher, fiber artist, spinner, weaver and dyer. Judith captivates every audience whether it's a class or a casual conversation with a perspective that traces the history of fiber to its ancestral roots and connects it to the practices and meaning in today's world.   • Teacher Information.
    For more information about each teacher click on each teacher's name on the Class Schedule or go to the "Meet the Teachers" page on the Madrona website. Many teachers have websites with pictures of their work and we've listed them for you in their write-ups.

  • Costs.
    A $45 one time Non-Refundable Registration Fee is applied only once when you sign up for one or more regular classes. This fee is NOT charged when signing up for the Banquet only.

    3 hr. classes: $65
    6 hr. classes: $115
    2 Day (12 hr.) classes: $225
    Saturday Night Banquet: $45 (see Saturday's Class Schedule)

  • Class Materials Fees.
    If a class has a materials fee it is listed on the schedule with the class description. The materials fee will be collected with the class fee when you register for that class.

  • Payment Options.
    You may pay by check or credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover Card.Pay online with our secure online registration process. If youpay by credit card, the full amount for your registration will be charged at the time you register. If you choose to pay by check full payment must be received within 10 days of registering in order to keep your classes.

  • Cancellation and Refunds Policy.
    We are giving you 2 weeks before opening registration to consider classes you want to sign up for. Plan carefully. No changes or additions at all can be done online after your initial registration.  For all cancellations, changes, exchanges or additions to your registration you must contact Suzanne Pedersen at suzanne@madronafiberarts.com or 425-222-3554. Cancellations or exchanges of individual classes are subject to a $10 fee for each change in a class.  Banquet reservation changes, error corrections and additions of classes to your previous registration are NOT subject to this $10 processing fee.
    • You may cancel your entire registration until January 12, 2008 and receive a refund for all fees except the non-refundable $45 registration fee.
    • Or you may cancel any individual classes but not your entire registration until January 12, 2008 for a $10 per class processing fee.
    • There will be NO refunds after January 12, 2008 for any cancellations of individual classes or retreat registrations. Materials Fees and the Banquet are fully refundable until February 1, 2008.
    • You may make changes to your registration and exchange classes dependent on class availability until January 12, 2008 for a $10 processing fee for each change (errors, banquet reservations and additions of new classes to a previous registration are excluded from the processing fee).  All class exchange requests after that date will be accepted only on a case-by-case basis.

  • Adding to your Previous Registration.
    Do not submit a new registration! Please check whether the additional class that you want is still open by going to the Class Schedule Page.  Then call or email Suzanne Pedersen at Suzanne@madronafiberarts.com or 425-222-3554 to add the new class or banquet registration. You may add a new class at any time as long as there is space in the class.

  • Class Hours.
    Classes begin at 9:00 AM each day and end at 4:30 PM with a lunch break from 12 noon till 1:30 PM. The Class Schedule page shows the time for each class and also the evening events.

  • Supply and Homework List for all classes will be posted on the Madrona Website by December 15th.

  • Cancellations, class exchanges and other changes to your registration.
    You must contact Suzanne Pedersen at 425-222-3554 or e-mail suzanne@madronafiberarts.com. No changes can be made online to your registration.

  • The Marketplace at the Winter Retreat.
    The 2008 Winter Retreat Market is greatly expanded. We are excited to continue to offer the very best and unique yarns and fibers from around the world. Your favorite yarn shops, unique specialty vendors, books, patterns, equipment, accessories, dyes and one-of-a kind items are all in one place. If you can imagine it, our vendors will have it.

    The market is free and open to the public all 4 days of the retreat in the Pavilion at the Hotel Murano, (formerly the Sheraton Tacoma Hotel), at 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma, Washington.   • Evening Events at the Winter Retreat.
    Thursday and Friday night events are Free. On Thursday, Valentine's Day, is the "Valentine's Day Knit-In for Charity" with our special guests Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and Ruth Sørensen. The evening begins at 7:30 pm and is Free although donations of knitted items and dollars are gladly accepted for the charities we are sponsoring.

    Friday evening is our traditional "Teacher's Gallery" and Lucy Neatby, known for her innovative techniques and colorful designs, will talk with us about her designs, their inspiration and her own voyage of discovery in knitting. The event begins at 7:30 PM and is Free. More information on both evening events can be found in the appropriate days on the Class Schedule page and will also be featured on our website in January.

  • Mail List Sign-up.
    Many of you are already on our mail list. If you aren't on our list, click on the Mail List in the table of contents at the left of the Home Page. Your information is totally private and the list is used only to send periodic announcements concerning Madrona Fiber Arts events. If your email address has changed, just click on the Mail List and enter your new email address. Some people sign up and don't receive our emails. We send out "group emails" that maybe identified by some email filters as spam. Some of you who get your email at work may have filters that don't allow emails from us. Be sure that emails from info@madronafiberarts.com and suzanne@madronafiberarts.com are on your "safe list" for receiving emails.
